
Mossoró is the second biggest city of Rio Grande do Norte state. It is one of the fastest developing cities in Brazil. It’s about 225 thousand people and it’s located in the middle of the way between Natal and Fortaleza. It produces oil, salt, fruits and shrimps and exports them to a lot of countries all over the world. LatelyMossoró has become a touristic destination because of many national famous cultural events. The longest one is Mossoró Cidade Junina celebrating Saint John with shows and square dances during all the month of June. Another great event is Chuva de Balas, a big play that tells the fight against Lampião and his Cangaceiros (bandits). The people got their guns and banned the bandits from the city in 1927.The biggest play is the Auto da Liberdade that gathers more than two thousand actors to celebrate the day when the city freed the slaves before the oficial freedom in Brazil. Mossoró is about 24 miles from the coast. In a few minutes you get to wonderful beaches of Tibau, Areia Branca and Grossos. In about an hour you can drive to the famous beach of Canoa Quebrada. Don’t forget to visit the 14 hot water pools at the Termas Hotel.
